SunBuggie believes that the best option for anyone riding an ATV, adolescent or adult, is to take the official California state mandated ATV Safety Institute course which offers hands on training available on an ATV with a licensed instructor. While no amount of training can completely guarantee your safety on the dunes, it can go a long way to increase the odds that you'll be able to avoid an accident. The ASI course takes about 4 hours to complete but the time invested in learning how to properly operate an ATV could potentially save a life! Fully accredited ASI Trainers make classes frequently available right at the Oceano Dunes SVRA. Please call the ATV Safety Institute at 1-800-887-2887 to schedule a class.
SunBuggie does make ATV rentals available for use by adolescents provided the restrictions outlined in the chart below are complied with. All adolescent riders who rent at SunBuggie must complete the Oregon Safety Training Checklist on site with our staff before heading out onto the dunes. Your Safety, as well as the safety of the adolescents you are supervising is your responsibility. Off road activities are an at risk sport and severe injury or even death may occur. Note that per SunBuggie policy we do not provide ATVs for use by children under 10 years of age no matter what type of training or certification they may have.

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE ALL RIDERS MUST COMPLY WITH SIZE AND FIT REQUIREMENTS (CA STATE LAW REQUIREMENTS SIZE AND FIT) We follow industry established guidelines for Size and Fit to do our best to match you up with a size appropriate ATV. While the 125cc ATV is not suitable for riders weighing over 130lbs, we cannot approve a larger ATV for Riders under 18 without them being on site to actually sit on the ATV. As per the Size and Fit guidelines using height or weight alone does not provide an indicator as to proper fit for ATV riders. If you book an ATV that is physically too small for your rider, subject to availability you can upgrade to a size appropriate ATV and only have to pay the additional difference in cost for the larger ATV on the day of your visit. If it is determined that a reserved ATV is too large for a rider they will not be permitted to ride that ATV and subject to availability a smaller ATV would be provided however there are no refunds for booking an ATV not appropriate for a given age range, all sales are final.
